Tết trung thu

Tết Trung Thu theo âm lịch là ngày rằm tháng 8 hằng năm. Đây là ngày tết của trẻ em, còn được gọi là "Tết trông Trăng". Trẻ em rất mong đợi được đón tết này vì thường được người lớn tặng đồ chơi, thường là đèn ông sao, mặt nạ, đèn kéo quân, súng phun nước... rồi bánh nướng, bánh dẻo. Vào ngày tết này, người ta tổ chức bày cỗ, trông trăng.

International travel exhibition scheduled for September

Hundreds of travel agencies across the world are expected to take part in the International Travel Exhibition-2008 scheduled to open in HCMC from September 12-14.

It is the fourth of its kind so far and the biggest annual travel event in Vietnam. Its largely-ranging agenda includes an Asia-Europe forum on tourism, a symposium on investment and development of tourism, a friendly golf competition and a tourist fair.

The exhibition will focus on tri-national tours between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia themed “Three countries-a destination.”

Asian Zither Festival enlivens HCMC in September

Performers from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Japan, Republic of Korea and Vietnam are expected to participate in the second Asian Zither Festival in HCMC early September.

The participants will bring their best traditional music to the four-day festival, which aims to keep the music alive.

Several exhibitions and talks by music professors, including Tran Van Khe, will be held. Khe spent years researching the zither, a traditional multi-stringed instrument.

The zither is known as koto in Japan, kayagum and komungo in Korea and guzheng in Singapore.

Phan Thiet set for three-day festival

The Nghing Ong Festival, also knows as the Guan Kung Greeting Celebration, will begin in August 19 in central Binh Thuan Province’s Phan Thiet City.

The festival will last for three days and will remember a Chinese general and warrior-saint honoured by the Hoa Chinese community.

The activities will begin with nearly 900 Hoa people marching through the central streets of the city, such as Nguyen Hue, Tran Hung Dao, Hai Thuong Lan Ong, Nguyen Tri Phuong and Ngo Si Lien.

Hoi An to hold 6th Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange

The Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange festival will be held in Hoi An City, central Quang Nam Province, on August 15 and 16.

The event, the sixth of its kind in Vietnam, is among a series of cultural activities celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.
